Parts of New Zealand’s South Island has been hit hard by earthquakes on Monday, forcing residents in coastal areas to flee from tsunami waves.
While a strong earthquake would stir fear into the hearts of most people, it didn’t seem faze gaming YouTuber Omega, who was in the middle of recording a video when the quake struck him.
“We’re in a frickin’ earthquake!” he exclaims in a video uploaded to Twitter, as a rattling can be heard in the background.
Omega, from the Nelson region, told Mashable that he was getting ready to make a video for his YouTube channel after a long day.
“We were ready to evacuate after due to a tsunami warning but ending up staying home as it wasn’t as bad as it seemed,” he said. The full video he created can be seen here.
Monday’s earthquake was centred in a rural area 93 kilometers (57 miles) northeast of Christchurch. It hit residents in that city, as well as Wellington, the Chatham Islands, as well in other coastal areas along the east of the country.
Large cracks appeared on highways, as products on store shelves were tossed to the ground. Rubble and glass covered footpaths in Wellington.
Two fatalities have been since confirmed by the country’s authorities in the wake of the massive tremors.
