This is such awful news.
Carlos Muñoz Portal, a location scout for the
The location scout, who has a great deal of productions to his name including Fast & Furious and Apocalypto, was working on finding shooting locations for season four when he was killed, though no witnesses have come forward to describe exactly what happened to him.
According to local reports from Mexico, even though Hidalgo has one of the highest murder rates in Mexico due to the prevalence of drug cartels there — with 182 killings in July alone — authorities are having trouble figuring out who is to blame and why.
More broadly, though, Narcos was reportedly set to focus season four on Mexico’s infamous Juarez cartel — and the fact that Munoz Portal was killed in that area and found “bullet-riddled” in his car may speak for itself as far as who’s responsible for the violence.
Locals are mourning Carlos’ death (below):

No word yet on what Netflix will do after this murder, but they have released a statement about it, as well (below);
“We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family. The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate.”
Our condolence, too, go to Carlos’ family, friends, and loved ones.
This is so, so sad.
