Don’t you just love a tale of real life romance? A story that defies the odds and proves that, despite all of the horror in the world, love really does conquer all. Yeah? Not me. It’s much easier to write about people who’ve been torn apart by the emotion we laughingly call a wonderful thing – there’s more of a narrative…
Alexander Cirk is a 41-year-old Dutchman who, after two months of talking, fell in love with a woman who he had met online (known only asZhang).
Apropos of nothing, really, Cirk flew 3,000 miles toChangsha Huanghua International Airport in China to see his beloved (since that’s where she was) but, alas, she was nowhere to be seen.
Oh well, some kind of admin error, perhaps? She’ll be here in no time, surely? No. Not really. Cirk was hospitalised after suffering from severe exhaustion having waited ten days for Zhang to show up.
I once waited three hours more than usual for my sister to come round because there was a load of traffic on the M3 and I thought I had it bad. Honestly, I was this close to going to the pub and talking to real people or something but, thankfully, I saw better in the end, put on Daredevil and waited it out.
But there’s a twist in Alexander and Zhang’s tale, and not one that includes Matt Murdock being dangerously cool. Zhang, for some unknown reason, was having surgery and, if Cirk hadkept waiting, he’d have been there a bloody long time…
Talking to local press, she said this:
“We had advanced our romantic relationship but later he seemed a little callous towards me.
One day he sent me a photo of air tickets abruptly, and I thought it was a joke.
He didnt contact me later.“
It’s not all bad though. Cirk made some friends at the hospital, returned to The Netherlands all healthy and is currently talking to Zhang to arrange less of an impromptu meeting. Lovely.
So there’s a lesson for you, boys and girls, if you feel like you’ve been stood up, wait it out for long enough until you’re hospitalised and hope that your potential loved one’s in the same boat.
Love to all of you x
